Okay friends... Raise your hand if you've dealt with negative commentary... EVERYONE's hands are probably raised. (It reminds me of that scene in Mean Girls, I mean, who doesn't love that movie!) We're all on the same boat my friend, whether it's been non-stop bullying or just even sarcasm towards us, it can affect our feelings. I know from my own personal experiences, I've been made fun of for trying to make my dream of successfully owning a photography business come true, I've been made fun of for my Type 1 Diabetes, and I've even been made fun of for what I say or wear. All of this "making fun" can just build up, and it can be funny at first, but eventually it can just tear us down. Ja feel?
With all of the negativity in this world caving down on us, where can we find the light for us to feel confident and proud of who we are? I turned to Proverbs in the Bible and there is some life-changing verses that can maybe relate to you and your current situations. To sum it up a little, Proverbs is written by Solomon, the king of Israel who reigned from about 971 to 931 BC. Okay, so how can this person relate to us from about 3,000 years ago? He writes about beginning a right relationship with God throughout his writings in the Old Testament and especially in Proverbs, he basically writes practical guidelines for successful living. So with that said, let's dive into Proverbs, shall we?
"Let love and faithfulness never leave you, bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart." -Proverbs 3:3. I LOVE this verse because it encourages us to have a loving and faithful heart even when the negativity is crashing down on us.
"Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." -Proverbs 3: 5-6. Even when we question why awful things happen to us, God is calling us to lean on Him trust that He will make our paths straight.
"A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret." -Proverbs 11:13. Dang... This relates to ALL of us, right? If people are trying to spread gossip towards us, do we need to spread the rumors and secrets? No... Solomon writes that a trustworthy person keeps promises.
"Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the manner before a dispute breaks out." -Proverbs 17:14. I LOVE this one! If conflict is starting to arise, it's better to forgive and solve the issue before it grows and causes separation amongst our peers.
"A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." -Proverbs 17:22. Keeping ourselves cheerful by studying the Word can make a powerful impact on our everyday living and how we handle obstacles life throws at us on a day-to-day basis.
"... She is far more precious than rubies." -Proverbs 31:10
"She is clothed in strength and dignity, she laughs without fear of the future." -Proverbs 31:25 This is my favorite verse that I look at everyday to remind myself that God has a plan, and His love never fails!
These verses say we are are loving, faithful, trustworthy, cheerful, precious, strong and confident. How powerful is that?! I hope these verses impacted you in some way, shape, or form. If you have any prayer requests or want to see certain topics here on the blog, please feel free to comment!
